Cyprus – Most expensive electricity in Europe

Official figures of the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) show that Cypriot consumers, businesses and households are paying the most expensive electricity compared to all consumers in the 27 member states of the European Union. The statistics that were made public a day before the chairman of the board of Electricity Authority Cyprus, Haris Thrasou stated that Cyprus was cheaper than Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Italy and Austria and in contrast to his statement show that Cyprus has indeed the most expensive electricity.

Based on data from Eurostat, and in the EU 27 country average charge of electricity for households in 2010 was €0.1223 euro per kilowatt hour while at the same time in Cyprus the charge is €0.1597  per kWh. The situation is similar for the industrial rates.
