7.2 million euro given to foreigners in just 4 months

The government has submitted detailed information to the parliament regarding the grants given to foreigners and mainly asylum seekers for this year between January 2011 and April 2011. The total amount of 7.2 million euro was spent in the first four months of 2011, while for April alone 1.8 million euro were spent on 3627 foreigners who are staying in Cyprus as asylum seekers or recognised political refugees or persons requiring additional protection for humanitarian reasons. Most of the money was given to foreigners living in the Larnaca district accounting to 1 million euro followed by Limassol with 366 thousand euro given to 705 foreigners. The largest number of asylum seekers are staying in Larnaca while most political refugees are living in Limassol.
