Traffic Cameras Revisited – Again

Unfortunately, the government decided once more to proceed with the installation of cameras for traffic control. Instructions have already been given to the relevant departments to prepare new tender documents for the procurement of the system. This is the 5th attempt over the years for the installation of traffic cameras. 15 years ago the first attempt was the closest to realizing the plan, the cameras were installed and set in operation only later to be found that they did not fulfill the requirements and were put offline (they can still be seen in several traffic junctions in towns but of course they are just very expensive decoration). Another 3 attempts followed but in all cases they failed either because errors were found in the tender documents or because the system was finally rejected by the reviewing authority.

Will this time be any different? Does it smell like corruption again? Do we need traffic cameras or better spend the money in something else?
