A case of modern slavery was brought to light in Limassol

Seventeen Romanian workers were found living in wooden huts and containers in Limassol in Moutagiaka area. The workers complained that their weekly salary was 60 euro while their employer was keeping 1 euro per day from that amount as rent for their accommodation. The case was brought to light by the Builders Union and SEK of which the spokesperson stated that for the past two days, food is provided to the workers by the union because their employer is not willing to cooperate. The employer has been called by the Ministry of Labour who agreed to pay their salaries until 12th of February. In the meantime a representative of the Welfare Department was commissioned to go to the location and investigate the case immediately.
