According to the newspaper Sabah, Erdogan proposed to the chancellor Angela Merkel, that a Lufthansa flight is done to the illegal Tymbou (Ecran) airport in exchange for Turkey opening it ports. He also went on, to say that if she does not agree with that proposal then a British Airways aeroplane would do the same since UK is one of the guarantors of the island. The German chancellor agreed to consider the possibility. Merkel in her part, suggested that a meeting is arranged in Germany between him and president Christofias but he responded that he would only agree on a meeting in the presence of president Christofias, the Turkish Cypriot leader and the prime ministers of Greece and Turkey.
