Club Owners Association furious over smoking ban law not being amended

Club Owners Association demands that the smoking legislation is amended to allow the owners of each centre to decide whether they want to allow smoking or not at their premises. According to the secretary of the association Mr Fanos Leventis their profits have fallen by 40% after the smoking ban. The House of Representatives has denied discussing any of these changes and the Club Owners are planning to use the upcoming parliamentary elections as leverage by boycotting MP’s who have not been sympathetic to their cause.

Our Opinion:
While smoking is important to club goers, a 40% drop in profits can be accounted to other things including the economic situation of Cyprus, the increasing unemployment, and the constantly increasing cost of drinks and food. What the Club Owners Association fails to see is the fact that the quality of their offering has dropped while their prices increased.

We choose not to go to places which still allow smoking as we find it unhealthy and unpleasant….we do not go out as much as we did due to the high cost!

As a matter of fact everybody goes to a club in order to drink and smoke. So smoking must be allowed!

In every single club I’ve been ever since the law was enforced there was people smoking – and it wasn’t 1-2 random cases but more like 1/3 of the club including employees. So 40% profit loss is not cause of smoking.

Smoking while drinking gets you to drink more! (of course this is valid for smokers ).
Smoking is a big part of a good night out and the smoking ban never stopped anyone from smoking! Its even better now since illegal habits are sweeter:) Th club owners are robbing us blind! People should just start going to clubs and paying 60% of the bill price! Especially if they don’t get an actual paper bill in their hands! I feel sorry for all of us who tolerate this situation! Going out is starting to become a luxury… so get wasted at home and make them realise that you are not a fool!

As a non-smoker, a) I hate going to places with way too much smoke that I become a stinky cigarette in 5mins b) If smokers don’t want to respect non-smokers then why should we go to clubs? I’ll go to open air concerts/clubs instead! c) Drinks are way too high- stop fooling us with the old story from pounds to Euros – Not working. We’re not fools.

I spend very little time & money in Clubs as the price of drinks are too high…nothing to do with the smoking ban. My friends either drink at home first before an evening out, or go to bars where alcohol is cheaper, it’s simple economics…every place I go people are smoking anyway – keep up with the times & keep the smoking ban!

what if they tried to reduce the entrance fee or the drink prices… I haven’t heard anyone not goin to a club because of people smoking there… but I heard people not going because its expensive… in my opinion they should try and find another approach to this problem rather than just blaming everything on smoking..

Again all I will say Smoking = lung cancer+other illnesses= death by smoking. The Hospitals are full with Tobacco related problems. Who is paying for these people ? They are subsidised by the greater community of Tax payers.At least 50% are non-smokers.The state should add a penalty to everyone who ends up sick due to smoking, and give a reduced rates to non-smokers.
Also for the sake of our young children who are as we say our future- respect this Law at least. If it works perfectly well in South Africa it can work in Cyprus as well. Come on everyone Make It Happen in Cyprus never mind Greece.

Thomas Havvas you should go snort the ash in an ashtray and throw your anti smoking ass off a cliff! And if i see you do anything unhealthy YOU WILL GET THE DEATH PENALTY!
Oh and by the way .. lead (Pb) as tooth filler in causing cancer and leuchemia and is use by 90% of the people! should they be sent home for eating chocholate?

Have to be honest and say how glad I am there is no smoking in bars etc. The health risks are too great for those of us who do not wish to breathe in toxic fumes and also come out stinking. Perhaps if restaurant and bar owners offered value for money ( an unknown concept here for some) then customers would return!

They can just make a special place outside for smoking, and drop their prices.
