Yesterday, about 300 residents of Athienou, Avdelero, and the occupied village Piroi marched towards the border demanding that the crossing is opened. The mayor of Athienou stated that the President of the Republic has already given instructions to the responsible committee to discuss the issue with the Turkish Cypriot side in order to prioritize the opening. A crossing in the area will take the villages out of isolation by giving them quicker access to Nicosia and will aid the development of the area’s communities.
