Bus drivers refuse to help disabled passengers

MP Nick Tornaritis said yesterday during a discussion of the Parliamentary Committee on Institutions that he received written complaints regarding bus services in Nicosia. The allegations are about bus drivers in Nicosia who either refuse to stop for, or board passengers on wheelchairs. There have also been complaints that the drivers do not speak the Greek language well enough to communicate with the passengers. Furthermore he added that bus stops should cater for blind people too, providing audio based information.

Our Comment: Regarding the last point, many bus stops (especially the intercity ones) do not have any information posted, in some cases there’s hardly even a sign designating that there is a bus stop at the particular spot (e.g. opposite Hilton/APOEL in Nicosia)
