In a surprise move, the Minister of Interior, Socrates Hasikos, ended the issues between the Civil Registry and Migration Department and the organizations dealing with immigrants by transferring Anni Shiakalli, the hard-line Director to another department of the Ministry. Anni Shiakalli who has been with the Migration Department since 2002, had a long history of being involved in controversies regarding the implementation of immigration policies. In many occasions she has also been the target of attacks by migration related organisations because of her decisions.
