Cypriots can now be treated in any EU country of their preference

The new EU directive will give citizens the right to be hospitalized and treated in any European country of their choice. Under the Directive a patient may use the national contact point to receive preliminary approval and then go to the country he chooses to receive treatment at. The member state will be obligated to pay the amount corresponding to that treatment costs in his country. The Health Committee of the House of Representatives studied the directive, and it will be implemented within 30 months. For Cyprus eligible are all citizens who are now eligible for free medical care in Cyprus (about 80% of the population).
