CYTA employee arrested for stealing cables worth thousands

A Cyprus Telecommunications Authority employee was arrested yesterday for stealing copper cables worth 340 thousand euro. The suspect admitted of his crime after being called in at the police for questioning. The police got involved after CYTA’s management performed a preliminary inspection at the receipts and inventory in the warehouses and noticed multiple irregularities. The man was responsible for transporting cables to CYTA warehouses but instead he was melting them and selling the copper to third parties. Police is currently looking for the buyers of the copper and other suspects who were involved in the operation.
