Shops in Cyprus to be open on Sundays until end of the year

The cabinet decided to issue a decree that allows retail stores to remain open on Sundays with the same schedule as the past two years. The Minister of Labour, Mrs Zeta Emilianidou, is going to announce a new plan on Friday for supporting small and medium retailers, under which a 60% subsidy will be given for wage of employees who are hired in order to stay open on Sundays. Small and medium enterprises are considered to be ones which employ up to 4 people. She also added that the government received legal advice by the Attorney General on the matter who concluded that it is within its power to issue the new decree.

The allowed shopping hours for Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos are Monday to Saturday from 05:00 until 22:00 and on Sundays from 11:00 until 19:00. In Famagusta the same schedule apply except Sundays where shops can open from 07:30 and stay open until 23:00.
